Prior to entering a tank, the atmosphere is physically measured from deck giving reading of atmosphere to be less than 1 per cent LFL and 21 per cent oxygen. Is the tank acceptable for hot work?

No. Atmosphere should be 0,5 per cent LFL, 21 per cent oxygen and penetrating pipelines filled with water. Sediment, sludge and residue to be cleared min. 2 m from working area.

On a crude oil tanker what precaution, if any, should be taken when using the slop tank as the source of oil supply for crude oil washing, to prevent the possibility of an electric charge being built up?

Discharge a layer of at least 2 metre from the tank before using it for COW.
Discharge the slop tank completely first then refill it from a cargo tank from which a layer of 1metre has already been discharged.
Discharge a layer of at least 1metre from the tank before using it for COW.
Providing the tank being washed has an oxygen content of less than 5% no additional precautions are necessary.

High oxygen content in the fluegas may be caused by:

Poor combustion control in the boiler?
Drawing or leaking air into the boiler's uptake/scrubber tower?
Low load condition in the boiler?
All the mentioned alternatives ?

During loading of crude oil, what steps should be taken if flow of gas exceeds either the capacity of the shore vapour tanks (return line ship/shore) or the vessels IG lines.

Open mast riser to take off pressure?
Reset pressure level on P/V - V/V?
Request lower loading rate?
Open ullage, plugs or inspection hatches?

Tanks are to be inspected. Presently they are inerted, empty and water cleaned. Outline steps , if any, to be taken in order to have tanks ready for inspection and then lifting cargo after inspection:
