When converting from 'dry' cargo (example iron ore) to crude oil, you would:

Sweep holds clean first and lift out solid residues manually prior washing. After washing again lift out remaining wet residues after carefully stripping out only the accumulated water?
As a little iron ore dust might not do any harm to the crude oil to be loaded, you would not do any cleaning at all?
Lift out sweepings from the bottom only and not do any water washing in the holds?
Wash cargo holds first and use all the stripping pumps available to get rid of the accumulated water and solid residues?

Atmosphere is not combustible in either situation.

During COW what actions are required if delivered inert gas exceeds 8 per cent by volume?

To be ignored as max. oxygen permitted is 18 % by volume?
Stop operation?
No action to be taken, as required max. oxygen permitted is 12 % by volume?
No action to be taken, but try to obtain levels below 8 % by volume?

What is the correct position/working area for the deck watchman during cargo operation?

Stand by in the crew mess?
In the cargo control room?
On the weather deck only?
On the cargo tank area all time?

Prior to commence loading, in what way would you best ensure a smooth technical operation?

Test/check cargo pipes?

An OBO or O/O carrier, due to the movement of liquid in a cargo hold during rough weather, the possibility of liquid entering the inert gas piping is great. To avoid this U-bends are sometimes fitted on the line emerging from the hatch coaming. These bends generally have a drain cock at the bottom. These cocks should be:

Opened after rough weather or before loading/discharging or transferring cargo to check for liquid accumulation and contents drained into a drip pan.
Never opened?
Left open during rough weather to prevent liquid being trapped in the U-bend and blocking the line?
Opened and checked every day irrespective of the weather?

What is the requirement for bolting/securing of the blind flanges on the cargo manifold during cargo operation?

Every second bolts to be in position and tightened?
Minimum 4 bolts?
None of the bolts need to be tightened as long as no leakage from the flange?
All bolts to be in position and tightened?

Are there any differences between 'Clean Ballast Tanks' (CBT) and 'Segregated Ballast Tanks'(SBT)?

CBTs cargo tanks are also used for ballast, SBTs are not.
CBTs require separate pipes, SBTs do not.
In general, no operational differences.
SBT can be used optionally as cargo tanks, CBT not.
